Stock Froyo keyboard available for HTC EVO 4G

Evo-froyo-kb (1)HTC Sense may have prevented the EVO 4G from getting a number of standard features in its official Froyo update, but the Android community also comes through and does its best to make sure that no phone is ever left out.

The stock Android 2.2 launcher and 3D gallery app have already been gifted to the EVO, and now we can add the stock Froyo keyboard to the list as well.

What makes this keyboard unique is that a swipe up gesture on the top row brings up two extra rows above it: one for numbers and one for commonly used punctuation and symbols. These rows disappear once you lift your finger from the screen, so you have to swipe up then drag your finger across the keys to get the one you want in one continuous motion. Lifting your finger selects the last key you touched, so it feels a little strange at first since it goes against the standard method of pressing a key to select a letter.

To get this keyboard on your EVO, just download the .apk and install it from Gmail or using a file manager. If you're unfamiliar with how to use a different keyboard on the EVO, please refer to this tutorial.
