Angry Birds Lite Beta requires patience to run on HTC EVO

Evo-angry-birds

The much-anticipated Android version of Angry Birds (already long available on Maemo, iOS, and webOS) was released today in Android Market. It's actually just a "lite beta" version, which means it's not yet on par with the other platforms' releases, and of particular importance here at G&E, it doesn't exactly run without a hitch on the HTC EVO 4G.

Rovio, the makers of the game, are aware of the issues that the EVO (specifically) is having and has offered this fix to some customers via email: launch the game several times and restart your phone. Some users have reported flawless performance from the get-go, but most users are telling me that Angry Birds just won't fly. It force closed on me the first time and wouldn't get past the splash screen twice after that, but two reboots of the EVO and another attempt at opening the game ended up working for me.

I don't know what it is about the EVO in particular that causes the problems, but if you really want to get those birds in a slingshot and fly them into various structures to hurt those smug pigs, then don't give up! Be persistent and those pigs will get what's coming to them.
