AT&T sends Dell Streak unlock code to persistent customer

Streak-att-unlock-code The Rebel Sim II is an easy way to unlock an AT&T Dell Streak for use with T-Mobile, but forum member robroy90 did it the official way by getting an unlock code for his off-contract device from AT&T instead.

It was a drawn-out process that would've ended differently if robroy90 had given up after an AT&T rep said his request couldn't be fulfilled due to the carrier's "10-month marketing exclusive" on the device. He isn't the sort to take no for an answer, though, so he spoke to a third-level rep who took down his information (including the Streak's IMEI number) and opened up a case for the request.

There was apparently no guarantee that the case would result in an unlock code, but a few days after the date that the decision was supposed to made, robroy90 followed up with AT&T and learned that they were awaiting response from the manufacturer. The case was "re-escalated" and a few days later, an email from LBK Tech Escalations (who has been issuing Cingular/AT&T unlock codes for years) arrived in his inbox containing his Streak's IMEI and a corresponding unlock code.

All told, getting the code took about two weeks and involved one call to Dell, a chat with an AT&T support rep and two supervisors, a follow-up call to AT&T, and untold amounts of persistence and patience.

Anyone else have a similar experience?
