LG Optimus home launcher brings useful dock, app categories to HTC EVO

Evo-lg-home (1)

There are several great home launchers out there that anyone can use on the HTC EVO instead of the preloaded HTC Sense. ADW.Launcher and LauncherPro are two of the most popular choices, but I think there's another strong contender in the ring that hasn't received a whole lot of attention.

It's the launcher from South Korea's LG Optimus Z and it's quite nice. It features a Sense-like domed dock with four spots that can hold any app of your choosing, as well as an app drawer that supports user-defined categories. There are four default categories already in place (communication, multimedia, applications, downloads), but they can be renamed/deleted. The apps can be moved between categories with ease as well.

The launcher first showed up in August courtesy of xda-developers' aalopez10, but it was on the buggy side and force closed often enough to not make me want to write about it at the time.

I'm writing about it now because it was updated a few days ago and seems extremely stable now. There are still a few kinks that need to be worked out, but there's definitely more good than bad.

I don't know if it's unequivocally better than other home replacements, but I think it's worth checking out. No root required.
