Joining the recent flurry of Android tablet launch information as companies target the busy holiday shopping season is ViewSonic with its promising-looking ViewPad 7 MID. Now available for pre-order at retailers across the UK, the retail price is listed as £399, working out to around US$628. Although the converted price is high, it's important to put it in context; the figure includes tax and for comparison the competing Samsung Galaxy Tab is priced at £530. Being the pre-order price set by retailers, the price is also likely to drop over the next few weeks.
Intended as more of a cheaper yet well specified alternative to high-end tablets like Samsung's product, I think we can expect the ViewPad 7 to be reasonably priced when it lands in the US. With Android 2.2, full phone capabilities, access to Android Market, a 600MHz ARM processor, 7-inch WVGA capacitive touch screen, WiFi, 3G data, Bluetooth, GPS, a VGA front facing webcam, a 3MP rear facing camera, and USB and microSD ports, the ViewPad 7 looks like a welcome addition to the Android tablet legion.[Carrypad]
