Dell Stage wallpapers join stock wallpapers on HTC EVO

Evo-streak-wps (1) Even if you don't like the new Dell Stage launcher, there may be a reason to install it on your HTC EVO 4G anyway.

The upcoming Froyo update for the Dell Streak, where the Stage UI will debut, includes five static wallpapers that a lot of people have asked me about. I was hoping to pull them out of the Froyo build I'm running on my Streak because I think they're worthy of sharing with other phones. I ended up not being able to find the files myself, but that's okay.

It turns out that installing the Dell Stage launcher on your EVO automatically installs the wallpapers too. They're shown alongside the stock vanilla Android wallpapers, so just follow the regular Menu -> Wallpaper -> Wallpapers path to apply them to your home screen.

You don't have to actually use the Stage launcher to access the wallpaper, nor do you have to install any of the Stage widgets, so if you've got about 7MB of space to spare on your EVO, then installing the launcher may be worth considering.

I don't know if it's possible to extract the wallpapers from the launcher, but no one has done it yet (as far as I know). So if you really want the wallpapers, then this is the only way to get them right now. [See update below]

Not bad, right?

If you want them, then get the Dell Stage .zip from MoDaCo, extract it, and install only the StageLauncher-release.apk. The other files are the individual widgets, so don't bother with those if you don't plan to use the launcher.

Update: Thanks to Scotty T in the comments, you don't have to install the launcher anymore. After you download the .zip from the link above, rename the StageLauncher-release.apk to StageLauncher-release.zip (change the extension). Unzip the .zip and you'll find the wallpapers in res -> drawable-nodpi.
