Dell Streak being released today in Japan . . . maybe

Streak-japan-12.17 The last time we heard about the Dell Streak's release in Japan, it had been delayed until further notice due to an unnamed issue with the software.

Yesterday, I heard from a couple of StreakSmart readers in Japan that SoftBank (the Streak's carrier there) announced that the issue would be fixed by a system update at a later date and the devices themselves would begin shipping today, December 17th.

Good news, right?

Maybe not. According to a reader named Dan, a SoftBank rep told him this morning (that's yesterday in the US) that the Streak is "again delayed until further notice due to issues with firmware upgrades."

SoftBank hasn't updated its original announcement with this information, but just to be on the safe side, those in Japan may want to think twice about throwing that "Welcome Home, Streak" party tonight.

[SoftBank] Thanks, nisshi9 & Dan!
