WiFi-only HTC Flyer available for pre-order in Germany
Adopting a similar strategy to many other tablet manufacturers, HTC appears to also be launching a cheaper WiFi-only version of its HTC Flyer Android tablet in addition to the full-featured WCDMA/HSPA+ 3G equipped model. The top-end Flyer appeared on Amazon Germany for pre-order shortly after the launch with a price of €669, working out to be US$923, although this was determined to most likely be a placeholder price that also includes Value-Added-Tax. The cheaper WiFi-only version has now made its first appearance on the website of German retailer Cyberport and is also available for pre-order with a lower price of €499, which is around US$688 including VAT.
Clearly these prices are not an accurate representation of the final pricing in the US, but they give a rough idea of what we can expect, as well as provide an indication for the price difference between the WiFi-only and 3G-equipped versions.
Catching the eye with its innovative features, pressure-sensitive stylus, design, and Sense UI interface, the Flyer is looking like a compelling entry into the tablet race and hopefully HTC will be pricing it attractively to make an impact in the market.
