Gingerbread source released for Dell Streak

Dell-streak-gingerbread Don't get excited, guys. It's not what you're thinking.

While it's true that Dell did post the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) source code last week, it's only an alpha engineering preview release that, according to a funny warning from Dell, has "known bugs and may eat your device." Luckily, if we use the release and the Streak breaks, we "get to keep all the pieces."

DJ_Steve, the Streak's lone dev and ROM chef, already knows about this release (I believe he had something to do with getting Dell to put it up) and says he may build something if he can get all the issues sorted out. He's also working on Honeycomb, as you know, and just released StreakDroid 1.9.0 (Froyo) yesterday, so I know we'd all understand if our Streaks end up never getting a taste of Gingerbread.

Then again, knowing DJ_Steve, it might not be long before we're asking for a glass of milk to go with our cookie-filled tablet.
