How to change shortcut icons on Dell Streak home screen

Android-icons Customizing the home screens on your Dell Streak is one of the easiest ways to personalize your device.

And while rooting opens up the possibilities of what can be done, it isn't required to do more than just change your wallpaper, use a different home launcher, add widgets, fit more icons on the screen, and other basic customizations. Regardless of your Streak's root status and default launcher, you can easily change all of the app/bookmark/contact shortcut icons on its home screens too.

You can replace them with ready-made icons like these cute Android mascots (available here and here) or anything else you find online via a simple Google search, or you can just go ahead and create them yourself. The mascot icons are 72 x 72 PNGs, but other sizes and image formats might work too.

Once you've chosen/created your icons, create a folder in the root directory of your Streak's microSD card and move all of the images into it.

Using Better Cut & another launcher

If your current home launcher doesn't include the ability to create a custom shortcut, you can do it manually using an app like Better Cut ($1.99). There are other apps in the Market that offer the same/similar functionality, but the following instructions were written for Better Cut.
