iPad 1 retrofitted to work with the Smart Cover

The Smart Cover– or rather the set of magnets and sensors that make it work- is one of the new features of the iPad 2. It is a nice accessory for those who like their iPad to be naked but still want some screen protection and stand functionality, and the auto wake/sleep feature is also neat…if you’re too lazy to press a button, anyways. While you can’t get the auto sleep/wake function on the iPad 1, there is actually a way to make the Smart Cover work- by gluing on magnets. That is exactly what some modder did, and while it does leave you with 4 magnets glued to your iPad it might be worth it if you really want the Smart Cover. Then again, you can just buy the case that Apple stole the Smart Cover design from in the first place.
