UK-based Elonex releases 7″ eTouch 760ET tablet

- for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

Thetechjournal.com reports on a new 7″ eTouch 760ET  tablet from Elonex, a UK company. The tablet has a 800×480 pixel resistive (ugh) touchscreen, Android 2.2, Wifi, HDMI, microSD, accelerometer, webcam and a 1Ghz CPU. The interesting part though is the price; £99. That is about $160, but the UK has higher prices than the US on everything due to higher wages and more buying power, so it would be about the same as a $99 tablet in the US- which should indeed raise some eyebrows. Even with that screen, it’s a very cheap tablet for the price, and should be a decent starter tablet for those who don’t want to shell out for an iPad or something in that price range. If you’re in the UK, you might want to check it out.

  • I hope they start making more and more of these. You can still have a solid product without all the high-end stuff. Get this device in the hands of people with less money.

  • there was a german tablet, called WeTab, it was handled as the big german iPad-killer, but too much betastatus, pr-deasaster and other facts pretty destroyed its reputation. the great thing about it is, that it runs on linux, has a 10″ screen and netbookhardware, great capabilitys for being a tabletnetbook, using stuff like teamviewer, or running programms like google sketchup on the road. it’s now more fore the pure tech-nerds or cad-needing buisnessman.

    • I think I heard of this WeTab at some point, but only once, no follow-up news on that. I suppose that would be among the PR disasters? :P

A $99 tablet here, on Brazil, would be a dream for our newest president (Dilma Rousseff) who wants cheaper tablets for the people here. Her goal is a R$500 tablet (around 300USD). I’m happy that she wants to drop the iPad prices here – but with the crazies taxes of the national govern is a mission near of impossible 0_0
