Reader ROM Picks: Kings UNleashed Ultra for HTC EVO

Back in December of 2010, I upgraded my HTC Hero to the HTC EVO 4G. Wow! What an upgrade. I had been hearing about root this and root that for a long time and even as a Hero owner, I was like “What’s the big deal?” Well, thanks to G&E, I finally decided it was time to take the plunge.
I rooted my EVO on Monday, March 7th, and am so glad that I did. The powers that are given to root users are amazing! Since I rooted I’ve flashed 3 ROMs and the one that I like the best so far is Kings UNleashed Ultra R2, which was current when I wrote this. The latest version of this ROM is Kings UNleashed Ultra Blakk R3.
The reasons I like Kings UNleashed so much are the speed, look, and feel of everything. It’s based on HTC Sense so most users should feel right at home running this ROM. The devs use a gorgeous dark theme and the icons fit right in, and it even themes most apps. Even the status bar has been tweaked and gives you access to your power options. Another goodie that I really enjoy are the transition effects, not on the home screen but in some apps that have multiple pages such as email.
You lose SprintTV in this ROM, but you gain a full working version of a Hulu app and even a copy of AdFree so you don’t have to see any ads in your games and on websites.
I’ve been very pleased with everything so far. Kings UNleashed is clean, very fast, responsive, and highly stable. Everything that you need or want is easily accessible and always right at your fingertips.
Now that I’ve had a feel for a few different ROMs, this one will be my daily driver for a while especially since I just stumbled upon more ways to theme it and make it more me.
