And today, thanks to the rapid progress of chip development, the new standard for premium devices is a dual-core 1GHz chip. Those dual cores may look fast right now, but due to Samsung's contribution to the previously mentioned fast progress, they will be outdated by this time next year.
The company will stuff its new 2GHz dual-core ARM processor into devices slated to debut early next year. This information comes from an anonymous high-ranking official from Samsung who states that the new chip will "have the data processing capacities of a regular PC."
At every new technological advance, I start to think I will settle and buy a smartphone on contract for two years, but news like this keeps me from committing. If I am still looking for a device in 2012, it will be a difficult choice between this processor and Nvidia's quad-core offering. Unless, of course, something new is rumored by then.
