Barnes & Noble releasing new ebook hardware May 24

Nook_color_v2

The Nook line has been quite a successful venture for the traditionally brick and mortar Barnes & Noble. The Nook Color has been especially popular, thanks to the Android hacking going on and the new features straight from B&N. But now that the devices are growing older, it appears the company is preparing to release an update to the product line.

In an SEC filing a couple days ago, B&N told investors that it was planning to release a new ebook reader on the 24th of this month.

We do not have any details on what kind of new device will be announced. I hope it's the next version of the Nook Color, but current speculation seems to favor a lower end device. Thanks to the recent addition of a $114 ad-supported Kindle reader, many people think B&N willl release a sub-$100 e-ink only reader on the 24th and save the Nook Color successor for later.

The important thing is to be here on May 24 to find out what the company does release, because whatever it is we will be covering it.
