Help DJ_Steve get Honeycomb on Dell Streak 7

Streak-7-honeycomb

Since there's no telling when the Dell Streak 7 will be getting an official Honeycomb (Android 3.x) update, our VIP Streak dev DJ_Steve is once again taking matters into his own hands by bringing over the Honeycomb port that some other devs have got running on the Notion Ink Adam tablet.

Unfortunately, things aren't going as well for the Streak 7 as they are for the Adam. The biggest hurdle that needs to be overcome before development can continue is to get the touchscreen working properly. As it stands, both scrolling and long presses aren't being registered in Honeycomb (or Gingerbread, for that matter).

So DJ_Steve is looking for kernel developers who can either port the Streak 7's drivers to the latest kernel (2.6.36) or rewrite the touchscreen driver completely. He's even gone so far as to put out a video, which you can see below, to request help. Can you or anyone you know give him a hand?

If you can help, please leave a comment below or get in touch with @DMonsterProd (that's DJ_Steve) on Twitter.

So now that DJ Steve got him self a Streak 7 I’m guessing us Streak 5 users are S.O.L. It seems he has put all his attention on the Streak 7 and the 5 inch version of Android 3.x that he was working on has been forgotten. Is this so? please say it is’ent so Steve.

That seems pretty harsh. Steve has done a lot for the Streak and even if he did stop developing for it, Streak users would be much better for his work and certainly not SOL.

There was no disrespect meant to you Steve it was more of an observation and a question. I don’t use twitter and only follow what’s going on with the Streak through this web site. So I’m sorry if I offend you, it was not meant in that way and the work you do for us is greatly appreciated.

Steve, how similar are the Streak7 and Streak5? If you get success on the 7, how does that translate to the 5? Or does it not translate at all and you still have to rebuild for the Streak5 from the ground up?

I wish Dell had made these a bit more accessible.

I think that if and when honeycomb does come out it will be missing the lower on screen back, home and menu because they are not needed on the streaks maybe try removing that main feature in honeycomb but one things for shure google techs are running it just fine and working with dell
