How to check HTC EVO upgrade eligibility via text message

Sprint-upgrade-sms With the dawn of each new day bringing us that much closer to the release of the HTC EVO 3D, many of you may be wondering whether you're eligible for the upgrade price ($199.99).

There are several ways to find out (e.g., talk to someone at Sprint, log into your Sprint.com account), but one of the quickest ways to do it right from your EVO 4G is to simply text the word upgrade to 1311. A few seconds after you hit send, you'll hear back from SprintFreeMsg with the info you want to know: the line you're texting from, the date you'll be eligible for an upgrade (if you're not already eligible), and your discount.

If you qualify for the full upgrade now, then you'll get the message you see on the right and you'll be able to buy the EVO 3D for $199.99 (minus $50 if you already preordered) on launch day.

If you're not eligible due to Sprint's recent two-tier Premier program change, then you may want to reach out to the carrier to see if you can get a one-time courtesy upgrade. Many customers (and G&E readers) have been able to get it simply by emailing [email protected] and asking for it.
