Nexus S 4G walkthrough

IMG_0790

Yesterday, I received the newest iteration of the Nexus S series, the Nexus S 4G. I unboxed it for you all then, but I wanted to give a more thorough going-over of the device in a post all its own now.

There are some cool (and . . . not cool) design moves here, and I think they warrant a standalone post. Join me below, won't you?

First, let's talk about the screen.

The screen has a slight curvature to it. In fact, it's so slight that I can't even show you with a picture. (Believe me, I tried.) So here's the top of the beautiful 4" Super AMOLED screen. There's an earpiece, obviously, and the 0.3 VGA front-facing camera. As you can see in the photo, the screen and the bezel around it blend in together very nicely.

On the back, there's a 5MP auto focus camera with an LED flash.

And then there's the dreaded glossy plastic. It's worse than other glossy finishes in that it scratches way too easily. I've had the device for exactly one day, and I've got small hairline scratches all over the back.

Oh, and it attracts my finger grease like crazy too.

On the left side of the device, there is a volume rocker. Unfortunately, it's not very solid or clicky, so it makes for an unenjoyable volume-changing experience.

On the right, you've got a power button. This side is still mushy, and I think it's kind of silly for a flagship device to be so cheap-feeling.

Finally, on the bottom, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microUSB port, and that disgusting hump. But while that hump looks horrid, it actually does help in the grippiness of the device. Believe me, this phone can use all the help it can get in that department.

So that's your walkthrough. The review is coming later, probably sometime next week. It's not like you haven't seen this before, but I hope it gives you a little taste of what you will get with the Nexus S 4G.
