Usable notifications and widgets to be introduced with iOS 5?

Apple's iOS is incredibly popular. Together with the iPhone, it revolutionized our thoughts of what smartphones were and how they were used. But, it's not perfect. It's actually quite far from it to a lot of people, including myself.

I do not mean to say I don't love my iPhone. There's just so much great hardware and potential hidden away inside, and the software doesn't do a good job of showing those things. However, if a new report is to be believed, then maybe Apple knows this as well and is starting to realize they need to fix it. Apparently, the company is hard at work to give its iPhone users a much needed notifications system upgrade. They might even be tacking on widgets, as well.

You might be thinking that if Apple was going to upgrade the notifications system or add widgets, they would've done it a long time ago. But listen here: I am almost 100% certain that WWDC in two weeks' time is going to be all about software and include a huge focus on iOS 5. Why do I think that? As usual, Apple has been inviting many journalists from all over the world to come to San Francisco for the keynote. The white iPhone and even the Verizon iPhone have only just come out, so a hardware introduction seems incredibly unlikely. Numerous reports and stories have claimed that Apple has either purchased or partnered with big-name companies to improve on technologies that are already included with iOS.

Expect to actually see these and other improvements on June 6th.
