Wisair announces new wireless USB solution

Wireless USB is a technology that hasn’t really gained too much ground, but is still being deleloped by some companies. Wisair has now announced a new single-chip solution that they will be demonstrating at Computex next week, aiming for tablet integration. The system uses Ultra Wide Band technology to allow for wireless USB functionality as well as wireless media streaming. Other competing technologies already exist in form of Intel’s WiDi and others, but arguably it’s a lot simpler to just use some form of Wifi streaming (AirPlay or DLNA, for instance). Even if your TV doesn’t have Wifi capabilities, adding some stingy external box is likely to be cheaper and more universal than using some form of proprietary technology, although bandwidth issues could be a problem. It’ll be interesting to see how this technology will play a role in the future, or rather, if it will play a role at all.
