iPad optimized Skype app coming soon
Just a week after news started appearing that Facebook is making an iPad optimized version of their iOS app, a promo video now show us that Skype is about to release an iPad optimized version of their app as well. With the iPad 2 having two cameras the need for an optimized app (rather than a magnified iPhone app) has become even stronger and with Apple having both Facetime and soon iMessage on the iPad it seems as though Skype decided it was time to do something about it. Personally I’m not a fan of the mobile version of Skype (despite using it on my PC) because it keeps seeing all my old PC side chats as new whenever I start the mobile app, but I’m not going to say no to an iPad optimized version anyways (for all I know they’ve fixed that issue in the new app). Voice and video chat with the world’s largest provider is certainly a nice feature to add to any tablet, and it certainly is a lot cheaper than to get any of the tablets that has phone functionality built in. Hopefully the app will be out soon, and chances are it will when they’re already doing promo videos (regardless of the missing sound).
