7-inch webOS tablet coming later this year?

webOS has had a pretty rocky road from its beginning way back at CES 2009. And it's very apparent here at Pocketables, as we just didn't cover it much. That may have been due to the size of the two devices running the operating system or maybe it was because webOS wasn't all that popular with consumers. It doesn't matter, though; we simply didn't cover it much.

And now, here we are, almost three years after webOS was launched, with Palm having been eaten up by HP. After digesting all its possibilities, HP/Palm had reintroduced the Pre and introduced two new devices: the Touchpad and the Veer. We're going to focus on the Touchpad for right now, because that's what we all care about anyway, right?

As of right now, the Touchpad is a major no-no here. But that may change. According to a new leak of HP's roadmap for webOS devices, the company is planning to release its 7-inch Touchpad, codenamed Opal, sometime this coming fall. This is line with the leak back in January, so the device seems to still be on track.

Obviously we don't have any more details than that, but it's definitely something to look forward to for us. Personally, I think webOS is a fantastic operating system. We just need some killer (7-inch) hardware to make it even better.
