Dell Business says Dell Streak 5 is no longer available

Oh-my The Dell Streak 5 may very well be a dying breed of super-sized smartphone. If you attempt to order a Streak from Dell Business, where it was in stock just the other week, you will soon be informed that it's no longer available to order online.

Dell Business has kept the landing page for the Streak up and functional, but any attempt to purchase the five-inch pocket tablet will cause the website to tell you that you can't have one: clicking the "Select" button near the top of a page causes red text to inform you that it's no longer available online, and clicking the "Customize" button further down the listing redirects you to a whole new error page explaining that they aren't available.

This raises a very startling question: could this be the end of the Dell Streak 5? As a proud Streak owner and blogger for StreakSmart, I certainly hope not. I've had mine for a little under a year, and I only have good things to say about it. Then again, Dell and AT&T have never really found widespread success with the pocket tablet, so the removal, while unfortunate, makes a little sense from a business perspective.

We here at StreakSmart will be sure to let you know as soon as we know more information about the possible extinction of the Dell Streak.

[Dell Business] Thanks, Ralph!

  • The end of the Dell Streak 5, but any chance of it being the beginning of the Dell Opus One?

  • I am kind of frustrated with the hand wringing about the Streak, when as unlockstreak says above… he called and asked them.

Doesn’t that seem like a reasonable approach rather than making inferences from websites?

We saw the roadmap back in Feb for the Opus One as well…

Pls do a little more digging before continuing these posts… or as Twain said (often misattributed to Churchill):

“The report of my death is an exaggeration.”

  • Wonder what they will give me as a replacement when I submit my faulty one for exchange?!?!?

  • It is Dell’s business site that state “The product or offer you are attempting to locate is no longer available.” when you try to customize the streak 5. The information page say that it is no longer available to order online as well. Honestly I did call, but that message was not there yesterday. Maybe Dell pays attention to this site!

I too love my Streak in all its glory, and would love this to be because the Opus One is on its way to replace it. But to be honest I, or no-one else in our outside-to-dell world even know if this thing will ever exist. All I have seen is a “leaked road map” from mid to late last year. Which could be completely untrue or could have changed. Even Dell mobility has no idea what the opus one is or if there ever will be one. So until I see solid response from someone at Dell that it does I will do my best to preserve my Streak 5 in fear it may be my last.

Nothin to worry… I was talking to someone at sales in Dell and they told me that they prefer to go with phone sales as it is just causing problems with the contract with AT&T online… they have CONTAINERS of it waiting for us streak-addicts to get one… :)

  • Next time (assuming there is a next time) Dell should go it alone. Offer the Opus One or whatever it will be called with AT&T 4G/LTE bands (making a new phone with T-mo bands at this point is beyond stupid) but DO NOT make an AT&T contract version. Tell them to GTH, and deliver new Android builds ON TIME, with no AT&T meddling.

Basically, Dell should make a 5″ Nexus phone. If people can’t afford the $450 or whatever the upfront cost is, sell them on payment plans. Frankly the difference in cost between unlocked and contract price after two years is pretty small anyway.

At this point nobody is going to care about a 10″ Dell tablet, not with Motorola, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Samsung etc. already there. Go where they aren’t – make a new 5″ phone please.

  • Yes, my phone is not charging AGAIN. They are sending me a replacement. They said it would take 2 to 3 weeks until a new shipment arrives.

    Translation: Over a month.

  • I see you’re still picking on people for whom English is a second language – you’re such a beacon of inclusiveness, particularly in light of your own proclivity to foul up the King’s English . . .

I’m not picking on anyone, just quoting a meme that the question above reminded me of. There were no personal attacks in my post.

You, on the other hand, insist on picking on me for no obvious reason. While my English is far from perfect, saying that I have a “proclivity to foul up” the language is a bit too much. I did mention in my very first post here (one that you seem to remember) that English wasn’t my first language; nevertheless, I reserve the right to use it as I please, your King notwithstanding.

  • I talked to Dell Mobility team. They are working on some major software/hardware upgrade to Dell Streak and Venue phones. Currently, they stopped selling them until mid-August when they hope to have worked out all the kinks.

  • Absolutely agree!! Make something unique! I am tired of carrying my galaxy tablet in my pocket and a seperate phone.A 5 inch smart phone is the answer for both!!! Come on dell! Hurry!

  • I’m not sure they’ve given it enough time or marketed it to the right group? I’m a middle aged woman who doesn’t even own a cell phone now, but was interested in reading books/surfing/using office docs etc AND making calls. When I did some research on devices that could make act like a cell phone ,a tablet and under 7″, there were very few choices out there. I just found one on Amazon and hope that it lives up to my expectations!
