HTC Sensation gets S-OFF; HTC EVO 3D should be next

Android-root It was only a matter of hours after the HTC Sensation 4G first got temporary root access that the HTC EVO 3D followed in its tracks. That's what makes today's news all the more exciting: It looks like developer team AlphaRevX has finally unlocked the bootloader on the Sensation, meaning that the EVO 3D will almost certainly be next.

AlphaRevX posted a video on YouTube yesterday (available after the break) that shows the Sensation's hboot menu, both before and after S-OFF was achieved, thus proving that the bootloader was indeed unlocked. News of S-OFF on the Sensation has even caused TeamWin to abandon their Fre3dom project, which was a tool being developed that would enable S-OFF on the EVO 3D.

AlphaRevX is also now working closely with Unrevoked to get a permanent rooting tool out to the masses. If you remember, Unrevoked gave us the original one-click root tool for the HTC EVO 4G, and they are planning on merging with AlphaRevX soon.

As always, there is no ETA as to when a permanent root tool will be made available to the public, but if history is any indication, it will be sooner rather than later. It looks like we might not have to wait for HTC after all!
