Google’s quest to scan books for posterity has been going on for a while now, and for the first time we’re seeing an ebook reader with access to Google eBooks integrated. Google eBooks have (according to Google) several hundred thousand paid books and over 3 million free ones to offer, which should last for a while even if you consume several books per week.
The iriver Story HD is also interesting in that it has a 768×1024 screen, also known as the same resolution as the iPad and (if you ask me) the lowest resolution you can read scanned documents on. Other than that, it’s a lot like the current Kindle, as you can see from Engadget’s preview video above. The device will go on sale July 17th for $140 (in the US), which means it will be priced to compete with the Kindle.
