CBS deals a blow to TuneIn Radio on HTC EVO

Tune-in-radio

Tune In Radio, one of my long-time favorite radio streaming apps for the HTC EVO, just got dealt a rather large blow by CBS. Sometime within the past two days or so, CBS restricted access to their stations through the TuneIn app, directing users to their own Radio.com app, instead. Now, it seems that all CBS-owned stations have been completely removed from the TuneIn directory, essentially disappearing without a trace.

Users aren't one bit happy about this, either. Some comments from the Android Market include:

Huh? My favorite app…but suddenly half my presets are restricted. Is this temporary?

Now restricted by CBS … epic fail.

Was great till my local stations were restricted! On the road constantly and always used it to listen to Chicago sports and sport talk! Useless now!

While CBS has yet to release any kind of official explanation, TuneIn Radio still offers quite a bit, especially if you enjoy international radio (like me). But this is definitely a blow to openness and choice, so let's hope CBS rethinks their strategy.

Thanks, Miguel!
