HP kills off webOS hardware, dreams of the Opal are dead

Hp_touchpad_0

Oh no! Today is a sad day for all of you webOS fans. HP today announced the discontinuation of all things webOS hardware, and our beloved (yet unreleased) Opal/Touchpad Go is part of that.

Let's give a bit of background into why the mobile operating system from Palm is such a big deal to the Pocketables team and me: the Touchpad Go would've been a 7-inch tablet. And it would've been running webOS, which means there would've been a decent app catalog and some serious multitasking, as well.

Unfortunately, that's not coming from HP. There hasn't been any information on the software side of webOS, but it's for certain that HP is no longer continuing their hardware or software development themselves. Others could certainly take hold, but we're pretty certain it won't be for a long (sad) time.
