How low will the HTC EVO 3D go? How does $49.99 sound?

Not to be outdone by Amazon's recent price cut, Wirefly is now offering the famed 3D handset to new Sprint customers for a record-breaking $49.99. Current Sprint customers who wish to upgrade or add a line to a family plan will also pay only $99.99 for the handset.

Standard FedEx shipping is free, although a $36 activation fee does apply.

One additional benefit of ordering through Wirefly is the chance to purchase a full year of Device Protection Service that covers theft or damage for $69.99 (that's about $5.83/month) and includes no deductible. While I tend to opt out of any phone insurance programs and take my chances, this is an intriguing offering – especially when Sprint's own Total Equipment Protection plan is $8/month and includes a $100 deductible.

In any case, I'm loving these price wars between Amazon and Wirefly and can't wait to see how Amazon will respond, now that the ball is in its court.
