Play Google Videos on your rooted HTC EVO

Google-videos

Several days ago, Google made their Videos app available to the masses, but also left a sour taste in the mouths of rooted users everywhere. This is because Google intentionally left rooted users behind, including those who have rooted their HTC EVO devices, not allowing them to play movies on their rooted devices that were rented through the new Android Market.

Luckily, developer ften is quite ingenious and has already created a workaround that will allow you to play movies rented through the official Android Market on rooted devices. You can download the apk at the link below, but just be aware that this will not bypass any DRM encryption. The developer has made quite clear:

This bypass doesn't affect the actually DRM licensing, it will still generate a proper license key, you will still be limited to the normal viewing times, you will still have to pay to rent movies, etc. Don't ask, because it's not happening. It just bypasses/disabled the root check.

Enjoy this while it lasts, as I'm sure Google will find a way to block this modified apk from playing Google Videos sometime in the near future. However, HTC EVO users will still have access to Blockbuster, Netflix, and HTC Watch, among others, ensuring that movie options remain interesting and diverse.
