ROM Roundup: StreakDroid 1.9.1 on Dell Streak

In this installment of ROM Roundup, I'll be doing a few benchmarks of StreakDroid 1.9.1 (aka Host The World) running on my Dell Streak.

I have been a huge fan of DJ_Steve's StreakDroid ROMs ever since he released the first unofficial Android 2.2 Froyo ROM last year due to the stability and overall speed of day to day tasks. Using apps like Quadrant, Nenamark, and Speedtest, I will demonstrate just how speedy this ROM actually is.

In the video you'lll see that StreakDroid 1.9.1 returns higher scores than Simple Streak 1.2 and PlayDoh 1.0. Here's the breakdown:

  • Quadrant: 1169
  • Nenamark: 20.3 Frames Per Second
  • Speedtest.net (on 2 bars): 1.30 Mbps Download, 1.27 Mbps upload

I’m not really sure what you are doing to bogg down your Streak, but I have run these different ROM’s and my Quadrant scores and Speed Test Scores are light years from yours.

My Streaks been on for 7 days straight and I just pulled a Quadrant of over 2200. ive never gotten less than 3MB/s down. These reviews seem rather rushed and uncertain. Maybe a long testing period than a day with a break down of how each one handles common and major applications such as FB, Skype, Netflix, Youtube, battery life when using it over a full day.

I’m not saying what your doing isnt a nice to get a feel for the experience. Im only suggesting maybe you develop it a lil further into a full out review.

  • I was hoping when I saw the original notice about you testing ROMS that’d it show more of what makes each different from the stock ROM. A bit disappointed with what’s actually in the reviews.

Your Quadrant score sounds like you’re using the perfmod. Like others, I don’t run pm do to potential accelerated degradation of the microSD cards in the Streak.

Still, 1100 is quite low. I’m on StreakDroid 1.9.0, 351bb, and I generally pull around 1600 on Quad, consistent with my scores on every build I’ve used since 1.6.0.

Speedtest.net is, of course, mostly dependent on the tester’s 3G connection, which he noted was only at 2 bars. With 4 bars at my house, I got 3604kbps down and 1102 kbps up, which is a recent change from the ~1.1 to 1.3 up and ~0.9 downloads I was seeing a few months ago.

So… great start, Orlando. As the other posters have noted however, you might consider either changing the series title to ROM Performance Roundup or adding more elements to the reviews.

Especially for the performance test, you’ll want to document your testing procedures and make sure all conditions are as consistent as possible. AnandTech and Tomshardware are two highly-regarded sites when it comes to testing computers, software, and related equipment. They thoroughly document their testing procedures, so it might be worth a look.

    Hi Guys

I have not been able to install the new 1.9.1 =(

I have tried everything that I know… but it did not work.

I created the install.txt file, and I downloaded (in different ways) the update-1.9.1.zip file. I use StreakDroid and I face the error:

    — Installing: SDCARD:update.zip
    Finding update package…
    Opening update package…
    E:Can’t open /sdcard/update.zip
    Installation Aborted.

Any help is welcome !!!! Thank you guys =)

Hope u’d found solution.by now,.. if u dont u should choose update.zip from sd on streakdroid menu. Its just perfmod doesnt work on mine, to me.its more stable than 1.9, but still im.gone.back to 1.9 because.permod option.
