How to play WiFi-only Gameloft games over 3G on rooted HTC EVO

Gameloft

If you took advantage of Gameloft's back-to-school promotion a few weeks ago, then you may have noticed an interesting setback when you tried to play multiplayer games on your HTC EVO: you have to be on WiFi.

But if your EVO is rooted and you're on a 3G connection, you can still face your friends in real time thanks to a workaround discovered by zyczu. Here's how to do it:

  • Turn WiFi on
  • Download WiFi Tether, launch it, and hit Menu > Setting > Change Setup-Method
  • Select Softap (master) and uncheck "Force WiFi driver reloading"
  • Start tethering
  • Check the notification bar for the WiFi icon; if it is showing, then everything is working!

And that's it. You should now be able to play multiplayer games over 3G. If your EVO crashes, go to SuperUser's options and disable root permissions for Android WiFi Tether.

Now, go enjoy your 3G multiplaying!
