While we have been talking about the Nexus Prime (or Droid Prime) and its great 720p AMOLED display, it looks like LG has been working on a device to get them into the HD party. According to a leaked render and specifications, the yet unreleased LG LU6200 will be packing a 720p display, along with some other great hardware.
This other great hardware includes a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon Scorpion processor, 1GB of RAM, and an Adreno 220 GPU, dual cameras (8MP and 1.3MP), WiFi, and a large 1,830 mAh battery. Also included is an LTE radio, which hopefully means we will see a stateside release on Verizon or AT&T.
Interestingly, it turns out that LG is one of the partners who makes the "retina" display used in Apple's iPhone. Since I found this out, I have wondered why LG did not make their own device with a high-resolution screen. Now, it looks like they finally have, at least if this rumor turns out to be true.
If so, they have not only matched, but surpassed the iPhone's display, as the LU6200's huge 4.5-inch panel includes both an HD resolution and award winning AH-IPS technology. This display and technology was even ranked above the Galaxy S II's Super AMOLED Plus display by Intertek, which should make it really, really good.
The Nexus Prime was getting plenty of hype and attention thanks to its 720p display, but now it looks like the Prime will have some stiff competition. Between the fast dual-core, LTE, and of course the awesome screen, the LU6200 should shape up to be quite a device when it ships, and I am sure there are more 720p phones to come. Finally, it looks like we are beginning to transition from the old 800 x 480 to something a little higher, and I can't wait.
