Even though the Samsung Galaxy S II has just recently launched in the US, Samsung is still pushing foreword with new devices in the company's home country of Korea. Today they announced two updates to the Galaxy S II line, the Galaxy S II LTE and the Galaxy S II LTE HD.
As the name implies, the Galaxy S II LTE brings LTE compatibility to the device, at least on Korean carriers. The display has also been bumped to a slightly larger 4.65 inches, but other than that the the specs are the same as this standard Galaxy S II.
Where things get interesting is with the Galaxy S II LTE HD, which brings all the features of the plain old LTE device, plus a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display with a full 1280 x 720 resolution. Not only does this mean the display will have stunning color, it will also be a clear 316 ppi, almost up to the "retina" class iPhone display at 326 ppi.
Interestingly, the Nexus Prime is also rumored to have a 720p display, be manufactured by Samsung, and be running on Verizon's LTE network. As you can imagine, this has caused many people to speculate that the Nexus Prime will be a slightly rebranded version of the Galaxy S II LTE HD running on Verizon. Considering Verizon's absence from the US Galaxy S II announcement, this seems very likely. I just hope they use a much less cumbersome name when it comes time to release it.
