While attending GigaOm's Mobilize conference in San Francisco yesterday, Bye says Sprint is committed to unlimited data plans for the time being. Citing hidden customer care and support-related costs for implementing tiered data plans, Bye emphasized the simplicity of being able to just offer an unlimited data plan.
Meanwhile Sprint is taking steps to modernize its network, first by phasing out of iDEN and using that network's budget to help pay for current user data costs. This will hopefully prove fruitful in the future to keep those unlimited plans. At least now those slashed longevity perks and upped termination fees are being put to good use and not just padding the wallets (or so I'd like to think).
