$149 Rover app-controlled “spy tank” now available

Remote controlled toys that are controlled by mobile devices are getting popular. You get them in all price classes, and the more you spend the more you get. The Parrot AR.Drone is one of the most impressive ones available with WiFi control and video transmitted back to the controlling device. The Rover App-controlled Spy Tank is perhaps the new runner up for the awesomeness title, packing a lot of the same features but in a ground based unit instead of a flying one. WiFi control is in place, and so is a camera with night vision. That way you don’t have to follow the thing around as you can see what it sees on your screen.

Compatibility is only with iOS devices for now, but hopefully they’ll add Android support soon as well. While the $300 Parrot AR.Drone is more of a fully supported (in terms of parts, tournaments and whatnot) “thing” though, the Rover is targeted more as a toy. The  $149 price tag is certainly more affordable, and being ground based it’s a lot less likely to require spare parts in the first place.
