RIM is desperately trying to fix its many, many, many problems that it has created over the past few years. It does that in a few ways, most recently by having one of its two CEOs publically apologize for server outages and giving away $100 worth of free apps. But its biggest problems aren't in what it's lacking; it's what the company does have. And what do you do when you have something you don't want? You give it away at dirt-cheap prices.
While I have to commend RIM for trying to do that, I still have to point out that it isn't doing it in the proper way. Today, RIM announced that it's going to start a "buy two, get one free" BlackBerry PlayBook campaign. Let's stop right there for a second and think: who needs three of the same tablet?!
On top of that fact, the cheapest PlayBook (the 16GB model) is $500. If you went for this deal, even spending the least amount of money, you'd still be throwing $1000 away for a tablet that is seriously behind the competition.
RIM, if you want to make money, just make a serious, good product. And stop lying to people. It gets really old after a while.
