Kickstarter spotlight: TouchFire keyboard for iPad
The quest for a good typing solution for tablets is an ongoing one. One of the latest contenders is the TouchFire keyboard on Kickstarter, a keyboard that sits on top of the screen and essentially turns your on-screen keyboard into a physical keyboard. This isn’t a new concept though, as the iKeyboard Kickstarter project got funding for such a keyboard in June. The iKeyboard is still not on the market though and from the looks of it the TouchFire is the more thought out of the two. It has a very low profile design that can sit underneath a Smart Cover without getting in the way, making it a keyboard solution that doesn’t take up any more space than the iPad itself. They also have a working prototype to show for in the presentation video, while the iKeyboard’s mockup heavy presentation was the reason I never covered it back when it was on Kickstarter. Which one of these keyboards will work the best in the end is anyone’s guess though. At the moment of this writing they’re $5 from their funding goal with 48 days to go, so it’s a safe bet that this one will make it. Pledging to get one will cost you $45, but prize winning “what were they thinking” $25 international shipping cost will probably make this a “no thank you” for many international Kickstarters.
