Minecraft Pocket Edition available on Android, iOS version coming

Before Friday, if you wanted to play the insanely popular indie game Minecraft on your mobile device, you had to have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. Of course, today is Monday, which means you can use any Android device of your choice to Craft away.

I am a huge fan of Minecraft, and an even bigger fan of mobile devices (obviously.) I play and use both of them, respectively, every day. And I'm sure my Android device is ready for some Minecrafting love, so I'll definitely be checking it out as soon as possible, especially since there is a demo version that I can download before I plunk down the $6.99 for the full game.

Now, it's only available for Android first because Pocket Edition was already available on an Android device with the Xperia Play. The iOS variant, though, is coming someday.

I think this really is a testament to how well mobile gaming is taking off. Obviously bigger game developers (EA, Gameloft, etc.) have been hitting the app stores hard, but seeing Mojang, an indie game developer, do the same thing is very telling into how the future of gaming is going to go.
