Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 finally available in the US for $270
The Galaxy S WiFi 5.0, along with its sibling the WiFi 4.0, caught our interest way back at CES this year because they were the first high-quality MIDs running Android with great hardware that could compete with the iPod touch. Unfortunately, although both have been available for a time in Europe, the US release of the 5-inch unit had been delayed.
Oddly, the first time we saw the device stateside was during a sale by the daily deal website Woot earlier this month, but today marks the first time that it is permanently available in the US. JR.com now has the Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 for sale at a price of $270, which seems a bit steep when compared to Woot's sale price of $170.
Still, when you consider that the mini tablet includes a 1GHz processor, dual cameras, 5-inch 800 x 480 display, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and even 60 hours of music playback, the price doesn't seem quite as bad. Of course, it would have been nice if they could have matched or undercut the new iPod touch's $199 price point, but you still get some nice Samsung hardware for your buck.
As one of the lucky few who ordered the Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 during the Woot sale, I will have a review of the device ready in the next couple weeks. In the meantime, you can keep an eye out for the unboxing, or if you are really adventurous, go ahead and buy one for yourself.
