Updated stock rooted ROMs finally available for HTC EVO 4G and EVO 3D

Evo3d-ota-security-updateIn case you are rooted and therefore held off on installing the latest security OTA update for your HTC EVO 4G and EVO 3D, you're finally in luck. For whatever reason, it seemed to take developers a bit longer this time to root the latest update, but ROMs are now ready for your flashing delight.

Normally, this wouldn't call for a special post here on G&E. But I really feel strongly about this particular update, because the security hole it fixes is pretty massive. Therefore, if you are running a stock rooted ROM – one in which neither you nor the developer fixed the problem already – you really should update ASAP.

So, if you're sporting an EVO 4G, you can find odexed and deodexed versions of 4.54.651.1 here. The ROM is completely stock, except that DSP Manager and the Amazon Appstore have been added for your convenience.

If you've got an EVO 3D, odexed and deodexed versions of 2.08.651.3 can be downloaded here. As far as I can tell, this one is also completely stock, with nothing extra added other than the normal root add-ons (Superuser, Busybox, etc.).

EVO View owners: due to a lack of active developers for this device, there aren't any rooted versions of the latest update yet. However, you might want to keep an eye open here and here, in case either of these custom ROMs get updated with the latest OTA soon.

If you are feeling adventurous, and you're an advanced user, you can also safely apply the update yourself. However, just keep in mind that the following conditions have to be met:

Once your /system folder and stock recovery are restored, you can safely apply the update. Afterwards, simply reflash your custom recovery of choice, followed by the most recent version of Superuser. You should then be fully rooted once again.

And, of course, EVO Design owners don't have anything to worry about and should just apply the update the normal way. Root hasn't yet been achieved for your device, so there's nothing to lose, and tighter security to gain.
