Apple confirms software flaw caused iPhone 4S battery drain, fix coming soon

Iphone-low-batteryWhen the iPhone 4S started shipping to consumers, many users noticed that they were no longer getting the kind of battery life they had come to expect from their iPhone 4, or even 3GS. Speculation ranged from faulty units, to overheating, but now Apple has put out official word that it was in fact a software flaw in iOS 5.

Fortunately for users, they are already working on a fix, which they say should be coming to devices in the next few weeks. Apple declined to comment on the specific bug, but many users blame the new notification system or location management for the drain because some were successful in improving battery life by limiting notifications and changing automatic time zone settings.

While some outlets had already began calling the iPhone's battery issues "batterygate," it looks as if the problem is relatively small, and will be taken care of quickly. As long as Apple is being honest with its customers and they release an update that fixes the issue, the iPhone 4S will remain one of the best smartphones you can buy.
