Since the release of the iPhone 4 and its claim of being the world's thinnest smartphone, Apple and others have constantly been fighting over the title. Samsung tried to claim it with the Galaxy S II, but the camera bump technically disqualified their entry. The Droid Razr was even thinner, but it too suffered from a camera bump.
Now we have yet another contender for the title, this time coming from lesser-known manufacturer Fujitsu. Their new Arrow smartphone was spied going through the FCC, and it sports a thickness of only 7.1mm that is consistent throughout the device. (For comparison, the iPhone 4 and 4S are 9.3mm thick.)
Regrettably, Fujitsu did have to skimp some in the specification department to keep this device so thin. The 1.4GHz processor is only single core, only 1GB of memory is built in, and the camera is a mere 5MP. The 4-inch 854 x 480 display includes Gorilla Glass and should be adequate for displaying the device's Gingerbread OS, but is no qHD or 720p beast.
Pricing and availability are still unknown, but the Arrow looks to be a pretty solid offering. If the build quality of this phone ends up being as good as it looks in that picture, this may turn out to be a pretty nice device. I only wonder how fragile it might be.
