Google Maps for Android gets 6.0 update

Google’s navigation software made quite a lot of buzz when it came out with Android 2.0. Not much have been said about it since, but it’s still going strong, and one of the things I really like about Android, as nothing is more annoying that having a GPS built in and nothing to use it with (out of the box). Version 6.0 just hit the Android Market, and it brings a few new features.

The biggest of these is the new indoor maps functionality. This gives you maps of large indoor places like airports and malls. This is a feature I’m very excited about (though I doubt it even works here in Norway) as I always absolutely hate trying to navigate places like that. There’s a reason there are those “you’re here” maps on every corner of those places, and this could go a long way to making those obsolete. There are also some optimization for the menus and Google Places, but the indoor functionality is definitely what makes this a full version release. Hit the jump for a promo video.
