Ever since the BlackBerry PlayBook came to the market, I (and many others) have been waiting patiently for phones that would run the same operating system. It used to be called QNX, but RIM wanted to tie together BBOS and QNX, so it's now a combination of the two, BBX.
And today, RIM is finally starting to talk about those phones. While there are hardly any details, the Canadian company did provide a few little tidbits of information to fire up the rumor mills. First off, BBX-running BlackBerrys will have access to BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) and, subsequently, native email capabilities.
Secondly, all phones will start shipping with 16:9 displays at the same resolution as the PlayBook: 1024 x 600. Granted, we don't know exactly how big these displays will be, but BlackBerrys are typically pocketable. I wouldn't expect to see anything bigger than 4.5-inches, so that's a pretty high resolution.
I'm hoping RIM will have enough sense to finally get some good hardware to run its software. Specs aren't everything, but there has to be something good in the next BlackBerry to get hardcore Android users to switch over.
