CyanogenMod app store might become a reality sooner than you think

Remember when we told you that the CyanogenMod team was thinking about building their own app store? Well, that dream might become a reality sooner than you thought, if we are to trust the screenshot above.

A CyanogenMod app store would provide a much-needed source of income for the entire CyanogenMod team, which provides free customized AOSP ROMs for a variety of devices, including the HTC EVO 4G and EVO 3D. They are often the first to release the latest version of Google's Android OS for a multitude of different devices, and have become the gold standard of custom ROMs in the Android root world.

Apparently, the CyanogenMod team originally tried to work with Amazon – they tossed around the idea of bundling Amazon's Appstore with their ROMs in exchange for a cut of app sales, but negotiations fell through when Amazon refused to commit to a time frame. Thus, they're making their own store to sell a variety of root-only apps and other apps that have been shunned by the carriers and/or Google, such as game emulators or tethering apps.

So do you plan on using yet another app store on your EVO, or are the current options enough?
