How to permanently disable cell radios on your rooted HTC EVO View 4G
If you recently bought your HTC EVO View 4G tablet during one of those recent price drops, and you intend to use it as a WiFi only device and never activate on Sprint, listen up: developer globatron has put together a flashable .zip that will permanently disable the cell radios in your tablet, bringing prolonged battery life and eliminating the hassles of having to frequently turn off the cell radios manually.
There are several reasons why you might want to do this:
- Simply turning off mobile data does not actually turn the cell radios off; they remain on and can still negatively affect battery life.
- Airplane mode puts a big, ugly, un-removable picture of an airplane on your lock screen.
- Apps such as Network can enable you to manually turn off cell radios, but they don't stick after a reboot.
There is also one reason why you might not want to do this: namely, globatron hasn't released a .zip yet that can easily reverse this. Therefore, if you ever change your mind and want to activate your tablet on Sprint, it will be somewhat of a hassle to get your cell radios functioning normally again.
The choice is ultimately yours, but this seems to be a pretty nice solution for those who are quite sure that they will never be activating their EVO View tablets on a Sprint data plan. You can download the .zip here – just make sure you are rooted first before you attempt to flash this!
