ITG xpPhone 2 being released soon, puts Windows 7 and 8 into your pocket

Xpphone2

I wasn't quite expecting this bad boy to be talked about during the week of CES, but the ITG xpPhone 2's release has been reconfirmed via email to us today.

The successor to the original xpPhone comes with some pretty nice specs for such a small device, including a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor, 2GB of RAM, and up to a cool 112GB of solid-state storage. The screen measures 4.3-inches diagonally. As an added bonus, the xpPhone 2 achieves up to 18.5 hours of continuous talk time, which is a pretty amazing feat by any standards.

Unfortunately, there isn't a set price yet but I would expect one quite soon. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to all of your thoughts on this new UMPC/smartphone hybrid, and if you'll be spending your hard-earned cash on it when it's released.

We should be getting a sample unit in for review some time after the xpPhone 2's formal press conference this month, so stay tuned.

    Interesting…..

Having briefly had the little Fujitsu F07-C, I have the following questions for starters that will determine if I’m possibly interested in this little guy or not….

    1. Can you boot up directly into Win7 or do you have to boot first to WinPhone first ?
(similar to F07-C where you first boot up Symbian, then switch to Win7….bad…)

    2. Is there USB Host port on this device?
    (F07-C doesn’t have this functinality….bad….)

  • one friend have talked with me about xpphone, but i don’t think windows operating can used in smartphone. You know the windows operating like xp,7/8 are so strong. i’m afraid such parts cann’t control so strong os.but i have heard the itg has bring out xpphone and will release xpphone2,oh,the company don’t want to give up this way to make a new way for pc and smartphone. but if we think it over, if this way can be gone, that will be good. maybe the technology is the biggest barrier for itg,as for xpphone2, i don’ know whether is good or no,just see the market reaction

windows xp does use less RAM and processing power but the interface is not as touch friendly as windows 7 or 8 so if the phone is given enough RAM and a fast enough chipset, as it has been, I think it will do pretty well, atleast on performance

  • Please dont believe that you will get a smartphone with this device.
Using xpphone1 showed me that it is a UMPC with a small phone-function. There is no automatic sync with outlook and no calendar with a reminder-function. The phone-software is very unstable and so you are not always reachable like using a “normal” handy. The camera for skype and photos is simply not in place. These are only examples out of the long list of problems. Questions to ITG (even if these problems are solved with xpphone2) are not answered. So if you need more than a technical gimmick any other smartphone will do a better job.
