Borderlands 2 coming to Tegra 3

Borderlands is one of my favorite games for current generation consoles. Great, unique graphics, fun gameplay, brilliant humor, and a DLC range that doesn’t look like some thrown-together catastrophe. The sequel has been in development for a while now, and Gearbox (the maker of the game) and NVIDIA just showed off the game running on a Tegra 3 tablet.

This is big news both for tablets in general and Android. Assuming that this will be the actual game and not just some stripped down version, it will be the first proper console game to get a tablet release. That’s all thanks to Tegra 3 optimization, so don’t expect to see this on other devices, at least not at first. A lot of power often have to be sacrificed for compatibility, and dropping that with Borderlands 2 might be what makes it possible at all.

I don’t have a Tegra 3 tablet myself, but this is quite frankly the first reason I’ve had to get one. While no one knows what will happen once the iPad 3 gets announced, I actually hope that Android will keep this advantage to boast about.
