Archos releases tablet aimed at children

Childpad 1 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

Archos announced today a new tablet that is designed to “offer hours of entertainment for all ages, especially kids,” the Archos ChildPad. It is pretty affordable at $129 and is running Android ICS. What it doesn’t have is the Android Market, opting instead to use the much more kid friendly AppsLib’ Kids App Store. I think that is one of the best decisions Archos could have made.

The tablet itself is a 7-inch, 1Ghz processor, with 1GB RAM which will be more than enough to handle most kids apps. It comes pre-loaded with Angry Birds, Pig Rush, and Flight Frenzy. I think this is a great idea since I know how much my nieces and nephews love to play with my electronics. I will be interested to see if parents are willing to spend the $129 to buy one, but I guess it is still cheaper than a lot of handheld gaming units.
