HTC releases Ice Cream Sandwich update list
As always, every new Android version is something that has to be developed and worked on by manufacturers before it can be released, and often users are left in the dark to wait during this process. Fortunately, it seems like those in charge of updates are beginning to be more open about their plans. Just a few weeks ago, Verizon released their Android 4.0 update list, and today HTC has made theirs public as well.
We've known about some of the devices thanks to lists like the one from Verizon, but had only unconfirmed rumors for the rest. Either way, here is the entire list of HTC phones confirmed to be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, in a handy bulleted format.
- HTC Amaze 4G
- HTC Desire S
- HTC EVO 3D
- HTC Desire HD
- HTC EVO Design 4G
- HTC Incredible S
- HTC Sensation (XL, 4G, and XE variants included)
- HTC Raider
- HTC Rezound
- HTC Rhyme
- HTC Thunderbolt
- HTC Vivid
It looks like all of HTC's more popular devices are on the list, and there are even some budget offerings that will be updated. Time wise, the first devices to get the update will be Sensation variants, but there is no indication of when other smartphones will get the update. That will all depend on carriers and the pace of HTC's development.
Even though the official updates will include the Sense customized Ice Cream Sandwich that many dislike, they will still help to make the latest Android version more widely distributed. Anyways, the updates should always make the device better for consumers, so let's hope HTC can push them out with as little delay (carrier caused or otherwise) as possible.
